Sure, Sony's going to be riding high on the Metal Gear Solid 4 sales, but there's plenty of other games that could easily sell PS3 units. When IS Final Fantasy VII coming out again, anyway? Is it too soon for another Grand Theft Auto? And where in the Hell is my Mega Man Legends sequel? Sony... you have some explaining to do!
The SlobsofGaming have plumbed the depths of their PSX jewel cases and selected 20 games that need to be revived on the PlayStation 3...
Note: The box art for our #1 PS3 title is totally legit. We're 103 percent serious that it's the real thing. Ahh, we're just kidding. Or are we? Yes... Maybe.
#20: Def Jam: Parappa the Rapper
Everyone who played the original Parappa game is almost 10 years older, so it's time to put some blat-blat in this shitznit. This game would adapt new and classic hip-hop joints like Jay-Z's "99 Problems," the Ludacris hit "Move Bitch," and 50 Cent's "Candy Shop". Of course, this game would be rated M -- not just for the thug life and uncensored lyrics, but also for the strip-club bonus stages and badonkadonk booty girls.More features we'd like to see would include unlockable bling, console-exclusive tracks, and cameos from none other than G-Unit.
Awwwwwwwww yeah.
#19. Cool Boarders 2008
It would be smart to make a snowboarding game while the Earth still has snow. With global warming slowly choking our planet year after year, there's a rapidly-closing window of time for Sony to make another Cool Boarders title. Gotta work on those snow-physics!
#18. NBA Jam 2008
Admittedly, a new NBA Jam game wouldn't be too far fetched nowadays. Basketball stars like Kobe, Lebron, and Garnett actually CAN jump 11 feet into the air, with their basketball on fire, and throw down a slam dunk that shifts the tectonic plates in the earth. But THIS game would have a bobblehead mode!
#17. Destruction Derby
Sure Motorstorm was great, but it really skimped on the whole smashing-cars-into-other-cars aspect of racing games. Destruction Derby should push the PS3 engine to its ultimate limit, complete with millions and millions of shards of glass flying in every direction in EVERY crash. Sound design should also be crucial -- we need to hear AND feel the metal twisting and contorting out of place!
#16. Trap Gunner
Trap Gunner was a super-niche title that had gameplay far beyond its time. Imagine taking the Bomberman games, replacing all the characters with super-stylized anime archetypes, and having a dozen different kinds of traps: land mines, pressure switches, tear gas bombs, and other wacky tools. A new Trap Gunner game would naturally lend itself to level editing, multiplayer mayhem, and online explosion-filled fiestas... Do I smell competition for LittleBigPlanet?
#15. Fear Effect 3: Triple Helix
Lesbians in video games will always sell -- ALWAYS.
#14. Dino Crisis
It's everything that Jurassic Park wishes it could be. And if you're going to waste the light-gun peripheral on shit like Time Crisis 4, then at least try making a GOOD game with it. Dino Crisis is long overdue for a revival, and Turok just doesn't provide the right kind of human-versus-dinosaur combat.
#13. Clock Tower
Not many video games can pull off a decent plot about psychotic pedophilic serial killers stalking little British girls. Clock Tower, however, sells the concept without making us feel weird about it. If I were making this game, I'd style the main villain after Michael Jackson and have it star a couple of Olsen twin look-alikes and Dakota Fanning -- because deep down, I still want to see them run for their lives.
#12. Bushido Blade
One-on-one sword combat never got the professional treatment it deserved until Bushido Blade hit the scene. With various weapons to select, strict rules of combat, and a pretty compelling set of characters, it's a wonder that no Bushido sequel has been made for the PS3. Now that motion-controls are so valued, even simple things like thrusting and parrying could be given a new twist with the Sixaxis. Plus, it would beat the hell of out crap like Red Blade. Ugh.
#11. Legacy of Kain
Few video game stories are more confusing, intricate, and engrossing than the Legacy of Kain series. Playing as the vampiric Kain and the wraith Raziel in the world of Nosgoth would not only introduce new gamers to the original duo of death, but it could also inspire new interest in the rest of the Legacy of Kain lexicon. Seriously, I've read the fanfiction. It gets pretty damn deep.
#10. The Legend of Dragoon II
One of the most underrated games in the PlayStation library, The Legend of Dragoon was an RPG that had a refreshing combat system, relying on timed button presses and a bit of strategy. Also, it was really fucking cool to watch your character transform into a mythic, winged warrior. While the game wrapped things up nicely, there's plenty of room in a prequel to tell the story of Rose and her past life as the Black Dragoon.
#9. Vagrant Story II
Ivalice is a fantasy world that has birthed some of our generation's greatest RPG games. The rare and overlooked Vagrant Story made tremendous leaps in combat, narrative, and design. Square could easily make another one, tie it in with an FFXII spin-off, and give themselves a bit more breathing room to finish that FFVII sequel, which I'm TOTALLY sure they're working on right now.
#8. Revolution XX: The Metal War (Starring Dragonforce)
The hilariously bad Revolution X had every thing a gamer needed: babes, explosions, and Playboy model Kerri Hoskins. The time is ripe to take another aging, over-hyped band (Dragonforce) and craft a new Revolution. Here's the skinny: D-Force is playing a benefit for breast cancer when their concert is crashed by EVIL ROBOT ALIENS! Special guest star (and my favorite American Gladiator) Robin Coleman (a.k.a. Hellga) is captured after an epic fight with the Machine King, and it's up to you and Dragonforce to save the day! Can the magic of Power Metal defeat the metal army of evil?
#7. Big Bass Fishing
I can't think of any better use for the Sixaxis than fighting a giant sea bass off the California coast and slapping its gutted carcass on a plaque in your PS3 Home. Fishing factors into a small part of many games -- World or Warcraft, Harvest Moon, River King -- but there's got to be a fan base in the South that would love to skip the trouble of actually going out to a frigid lake at the asscrack of dawn. There hasn't been a great BBF game since the SNES, so why not now?
#6. Parasite Eve 3
Aya Brea fans worldwide weren't pleased to find out that "The 3rd Birthday" is bound exclusively for cell phones. Those Japanese and their futuristic space-age phones may benefit from this tiny treasure-to-be, but what about the American gamers that miss the Eve so much? Square needs to stop pussyfooting around and churn out a proper console-style Parasite Eve, pronto -- we'll be waiting.
#5. Chrono Trigger II
Chrono Cross may have signed the series death note for its predecessor, Chrono Trigger -- not every RPG fan was receptive enough to appreciate its story and characters. Since Square may be looking to cash in on old franchises, a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger would be a damn good idea. If they wanted to be bold, Square could even make a sequel as wildly different from Trigger as Cross was...Or they could lift the cease-and-desist against fan-made Chrono Trigger projects.
Just sayin'.
#4. Mega Man Legends 3
The Blue Bomber's career has inspired more sequels than wrinkles in Christopher Walken's face. From the offensive anime-based games to the tired X-rehashes, there's not much left to do... or IS there? I present Mega Man Legends -- the MM game that was so ballsy, it slapped the titular character in full 3D and introduced RPG elements into a non-RPG series. Besides, the last MML game ended with an unresolved story, and Keiji Inafune still wants to put out another sequel...AND NOW, FOR THE TOP THREE MOST IMPORTANT GAMES THAT MUST COME TO THE PLAYSTATION 3...
#3. Grand Theft Auto 4001: The Future
For many years, it has been a personal dream of mine to rob a space bank and get away in my stolen flying car. The GTA series does a damn good job of providing modern-day thrills, but so much more fun could be had in Liberty City circa 4001! Imagine playing as a small-time Mars terraformer looking to bust into the Earth Mafia, while trying to deal with space babes and Nuclonian drug runners -- do I smell sales?
#2. God of War Anthology
It's fair to say that we're a long way off from the third God of War (2009, folks), so it would behoove Sony to get the wheels turning on a collection of GOW games -- all remade for the PS3. Even if they didn't change a thing about the gameplay, even minor graphical tweaks and Sixaxis support would make the experience a lot more engrossing. Medusa bitch ruining your day? Flick the Sixaxis to rip off her head and cram in her neck-hole! Also, GOW Anthology should include the cell phone and PSP games, Betrayal and Chains of Olympus!
#1. Final Fantasy VII
Everybody wants it, Square hasn't delivered it, and it may be the only game that could sell more PS3s than Guns of the Patriots. FFVII is hailed by many gamers as one of the greatest RPGs of all time -- bringing it back in full next-gen graphical glory would give any fan an ultra boner. The art could be ripped right from the pages of FFVII Crisis Core and FFVII Advent Children, the music would be completely remastered with a full orchestra (The Black Mages, anyone?), and the CG cutscenes would be gloriously re-animated with all the HD frills.Final Fantasy VII will come, but how long must we wait?
Comments
A God of War collection containing GoW, GoW2, Chains of Olympus, and the cell phone game is more than enough to hold me over until God of War III is unleashed. Sony would jump on this if they're smart.
I can't believe you actually put clock tower up there. I think I was the only person in my state that played that series.
And I do agree, I wanna see 'Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver' re imagined.
I definitely agree with fear effect, dino crisis, and legacy of kain, but more than anything I want FFVII. It's what I've been praying for since I bought my ps3. Hell, I'll buy another one just to give them money incentive if they'll make the damn game!!!
Meh to FFVII. I like the game, but FFVI is ten times the game IMO. Plus you can actually understand it's storyline. It's been over a decade, and I'm still confused as hell with FFVII's storyline. It's like the American translaters decided to just put cuss words up when they couldn't understand the Japanese text.
FFVII is ok, and it'd definitely be a huge killer app for Sony, but as a FF fan who was a fan before the series hit it big, it's not my favorite Fantasy.
Anyways, I agree with Bushido Blade for sure. The Kengo series was pretty good, but I say bring us the original. Also Mega Man Legends.
No Colony Wars? How about Battle Arena Toshinden (if they can find out how to make it not suck), Jumping Flash, Medievil, Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal (It's probably in the works), Another MTV Music Generator would be cool if you could link it up to Home, and have your songs playing in your house.
IMO FF7 is the only must buy on this list.. for me. Also I agree that FF7 might move as many if not more BS3's as MGS4. I would definately buy this game on ONE HUGE CONDITION!!! Hopefully Sqeenix won't F up the character models by making them look super ghey & girly, like sephiroth's pic in this article & the Advent Children Cloud (GIRLY!). I'm sooooo tired of these homo-androgenous male character models, that I haven't bothered picking up any J-RPGs since FF7 & Mario RPG!
Tobal 3 and Tomba 3 plz
OH MAN! We should have put Super Mario RPG on our Wii list!
I loved Tomba and Tomba 2--that's another great series that should be brought back.
I agree with you teh2Dgamer about Colony Wars, Jumping Flash, and Syphon Filter (all of these were considered). We would have included a PS3 Twisted Metal but it's already been announced.
Wow that pic for ff Vll looks so damb real!!! I hope it is real....
DUDE!! That game has to be remade on the Wii. BEST SNES GAME EVER!!
Syphon Filter should be up there. Resident Evil 2 remake also.
Megaman Legends 3! That would be spectacular...BTW, I also thought the Tomba series was awesome. =)
Great list some of my favorites are chrono trigger, megaman legends, trap gunner and nba jam. I would have liked to see zone of the enders up there, i think it would make a great ps3 game
please for the love of god don't make a remake of FFVII because it would be impossible for me to not buy a PS3 then lol
o and ps i love the covers you guys created they should go on the actual games is they make them lol
How about another Klonoa. Vandal Hearts would rock too.
Oh, and how about another Mark of Kri/Rise of the Kasi which were two of my favorite PS2 adventure games?[p]
Oh now that I think about it, how about another Descent game so people could toss their cookies in HD.
Robot Alchemic Drive (R.A.D.) 2. That game's controls are weird enough, but imagine what else they could do with the sixaxis.
Dark Cloud, Disgaea, Suikuden, Legaia series, Primal, Wya of the Samurai, and so many more.
Oops I spelled Suikoden wrong.
Clock Tower 3 (I think...one of them on the PS2) freaked me out!
Wow I thought I was the only one who really wanted more Legend of Dragoon.
you guys are really late... Dino Crisis 3 was on original XBOX and took place in outer space. i like the box art though.
